Allure Sample Society ~ August

Sample Society is a monthly beauty subscription from BeautyBar.com and Allure Magazine that runs for $15 per month (+ tax in some states) and includes 4-6 high-end beauty-editor approved deluxe samples. Plus each month you also get a $10 off $50+ to use on any beauty order from BeautyBar.com. Although this is my first box from them, I heard that they were revamping their packaging and products, and I like what I see so far.

I really like the packaging on this box.. it reminds me a bit of GlossyBox with the dark, reusable gift-type box, plus information booklet on top.

The booklet goes into detail about the monthly box and what products are included. It’s actually pretty helpful to read up about the products, especially if you’re not sure the use of each.

First up, we have  Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Peony ($8.40 value). I recently purchased a Melted Lipstick in Berry and totally love it! It has the long-lasting ability of a lipstick, bold color of a lip stain and glides on just like a lip gloss. It’s very innovative and thus was one of the reasons I actually decided to sign up for this box. I had been contemplating on purchasing another color, either Fig, Candy or Peony, and so I was happy to try out this beautiful pale pink color as it worked with my paler skin tone and hair color.

This Ciate Mini Paint Pot in Cha Cha Cha ($6 value) is pretty cute and great for travel or tossing in a handbag for touchups However, it is SO neon orange that I’m not sure if I can really rock it… I received a full-size Ciate in GlossyBox recently and that one was LIME GREEN, so I feel like I’m sensing a trend… This will either go into my trade/gift collection or perhaps try as a pedicure color.

Next, we have Kate Somerville Dilo Oil ($6.50 value) which apparently is a pretty popular oil with great reviews that say a little bottle goes a long way! This oil strengthens skin, increases hydration, firmness and elasticity and even reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. I’m a bit fan of using facial oils, so this one is definitely a win!

I’ve actually received one or two Jane Iredale items before and totally love them, so I was happy to see not only a mascara, but Jane Iredale Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara in Black Ice ($8.25 value). This is meant to lengthen and volumize lashes, as you can tell by the large, thick bristles on the applicator wand. I think it’s pretty cute that it comes in a tube too. After testing it out, I would still stick with my Benefit They’re Real, Tarte Lights, Cameras, Flashes, or Urban Decay Perversion mascaras, but this definitely serves as a day-to-day or good travel mascara.

Finally, we have Oribe Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse ($21.50 value apparently!), which was another spoiler for this August box. I love getting travel-sized products, plus love trying out new hair sprays, mouses, surf sprays, etc, so this was another reason I decided to subscribe. I usually apply mousse to wet hair and let it air dry or partial blow-dry, but the information card actually recommends that you use it on dry hair for better results. I’m intrigued! Definitely will be trying.

So, to sum it up, I am so happy I purchased the August Allure Sample Society box! I paid only $15 for this box and received about $50 worth of products (well, paid like $16.50 after tax). I was definitely tempted by the spoilers released, especially the Too Faced Melted Lipstick and Oribe Surfcomber Mousse, and ended up with a bunch of products I will definitely use. The only one that was not my style was the Ciate Paint Pot, but I’ll find a way to use or gift it!
