SquareHue ~ Salute Collection

image

More Nail Polish!? Could it be!? That’s right… SquareHue is a monthly subscription box service for all of you nail polish lovers out there. Each month, you will receive a box containing 3 unique colors, each fitting within the theme of the month. And this one happened to be “Salute”.

image

I received this box in late July, and had almost forgotten it was coming. So when I noticed it had arrived, I eagerly opened it up to see what would be inside. I loved the “Hue” stamped on the box and the simple, neat packaging. Three- .5 fl. oz. containers were neatly lined up, under a postcard with showed a few details about SquareHue and to check out their website for more details. I do wish the card included the color names or a few lines of info.

image

I decided to get a little artsy with my photos for this box. 🙂

image

First up, we have Valor, which is a creamy army green shade polish. I wasn’t as fond of this at first sight, but it’s beginning to grow on me, especially as it goes well with my complexion.

image

This royal blue polish called Patriot has a nice bit of shine to it. It’s similar to the color I recently got in my GlossyBox, however it seems to be the color of the season!

image

And finally we have the metallic, semi-glittery Honor as the last polish in the collection. This one is definitely my favorite and a real attention grabber.

image

All three polishes have a great texture to them and are easy to apply. I like that there is a combination: a cream polish, one with a sheen/gloss, and another that is glittery. I’m not a huge fan of green polish/haven’t really tried it out before, but I will definitely be testing these each out. I really like the gold shimmery polish, Honor. I can see myself wearing it for events like the 4th of July or New Years Eve.

What I love about SquareHue, besides the quality polish and unique colors happens to be that they give back to communities, foundations and those in need. Their current focus is on Human Trafficking: Currently a portion of all monthly subscription proceeds will be donated for prevention awareness, the protection of trafficked victims and the prosecution of human traffickers. Find out more here!

Interested in SquareHue? You can sign up now and get your first box for $14.95 + s/h per month, which comes out to $19.95 total per month! (normally $21 + s/h)

Nature Box ~ July 2013

image

Hi all! So for some reason, there was a slight delay with my NatureBox— it was sitting in another state for a few more days than it should have been. Luckily- I got everything just before the end of July and it was all in good shape! This is actually my first NatureBox… I finally gave in after seeing the different snacks, mouthwatering reviews… and so on. I hope you enjoy!

image

NatureBox is a monthly subscription delivery system of snacks! They always include 5 packages, which come in a variety of different options: sweet, savory, salty depending on their picks of the month. Apparently, you can even log on and change your options so that you can choose which ones will be mailed to you the next month!

This first look upon opening the box shows a cute little information card, which has a theme of “Blissful Beach Days”. It highlights the names of the 5 different foods included, and a quick-1 or 2 line description of what they are. Although I wish they included the nutritional facts as well, they can be found on their website if you are a member. I’ve included some info for you from the nutritional facts on the back of the bags as well!

image

We’ll start with the ‘sweet’ items first. So, first up are the Whole Wheat Blueberry Figgy Bars! Yum! This package contained 5- 1.2 oz bars, that weighed in at 120 calories each (3g fat, 23g carbs, 11g sugar, 2g fiber, 2g protein). I wouldn’t necessarily call these ‘healthy’ however I’m sure that because of the fiber from the whole wheat and blueberries that it keeps you full for quite a while!

image

Then we have Big Island Pineapple! As many of you have seen in my previous posts from Peckish Co. and NibNaks, I freakin’ love dried fruit, especially ones like pineapple, mango and cherries! This 3.1 oz pack contains ‘2 servings of 4.5 rings’ which is actually a pretty big serving size. For 4.5 rings, it’s only 120 calories (0g fat, 29g carb, 13g sugar, 3g fiber, 1g protein). While the sugar and carb count may seem high, it’s because pineapples are one of the highest naturally sweet fruits, and no matter how you have them (fresh, canned, dried) they will always be. I’m not going to lie- I’d definitely be content after eating only 3 of these in one sitting!

image

These cute little Lemon Tea Biscuits were awesome! I like that they’re just so little and snack-able, rather than getting a few large cookies/biscuits. I really enjoyed dunking them into hot coffee! This 4oz package contains about 4 servings (12 cookies) and is 150 calories per serving (8g fat, 20g carbs, 9g sugar, >1g fiber, 2g protein). While the carbs are a bit high, the fact that the sugar is low is awesome! It makes me feel less guilty by eating them.

image

Now onto the salty and savory items! I was a little skeptical to try out the Garden Tomato Almonds because I had received the Salsa Nut Mix in their free sample giveaway, and while the nuts were good, the ‘corn chips’ were kinda soggy and stale (in an unopened bag- I’m guessing either humidity or just the combo of spices and other items made them that way). However, the Garden Tomato Almonds were actually pretty good! Now onto the health details… these weighed in at 170 calories for 1/4 cup of the 4oz. package (14g fat, 7g carbs, 2g sugar, 3g fiber, 6g protein). These are a good go-to item for someone who wants to get a dose of protein while staying low sugar/low carb.

image

Finally we have the Country Ranch Sunflower Kernels. I love sunflower seeds, and have gotten them from different brands in flavors like BBQ and Ranch before, so I had a feeling I would like these. This 5 oz package contains about 4.5- 1/4 cup servings and weighs in at 190 calories. It’s a bit high- however it is a seed, and often seeds and nuts are higher calories and fat, but lower in the other areas (16g fat, 6g carbs, >1g sugar, 4g fiber, 6g protein). This item is similar to the almonds, with really low carb/sugar counts but a tad higher calories and fats. However- they will keep you feeling full!

Blush Mystery Box ~ July 2013

Oh hey, I got a box! What could it be…

image

I just got my first ever Blush Mystery Box from Dermstore.com and Blush.com. It’s my own fault for getting it just a few days before the end of the month, but I saw a few teasers as to the items in the July box and so I signed up in the middle of the month!

image

Immediately, I saw lots of custom tissue paper and this black drawstring bag! The contents of the July 2013 Blush Mystery Box are all inside the bag. It adds a cute, unique touch, and also gives me a bag to keep some of my many beauty products in. Oh, what’s that to the side? FREE SAMPLES!

image

I had heard via MakeUpTalk.com discussion board that they often include a free item or sample, however when I signed up there was another additional free item that you could receive, just for signing up for the monthly reoccurring subscription! Well, I’m all about free stuff, so I was excited when I saw all of these items. There was a packet sample of Neova “power defense” along with Dremu Airbrush refining eye cream, and then a tube of Dermstore Lip Quench moisture treatment!

image

This month was specially curated by makeup artist Elle Leary, and their feature product this month was Emani- Organic Lip Shine.

image

As mentioned above, this is the Emani lip shine in the shade Blush. I’ve never heard of this brand or product before, but I really like the color so I’m willing to give it a try!

image

This is one of the products that had me sold on the July box. I recently recieved a Philip B. product in my June GlossyBox  and liked it, plus it was on sale at HauteLook.com. It seems different than other hairsprays, as you can build up the texture and hold based on how much and how often you apply. For $22 a bottle, this basically paid for this month’s subscription!

image

I’m not going to lie- I was a little confused as to what exactly the Quick Refiner by Bioelements was. So, I did a tad of research and found out that it is a ‘leave-on facial exfoliator’ and is supposed to eliminate dead surface cells and reveal smooth even skin. Interesting. Apparently a full-size bottle of this is $46! Definitely giving it a try based on the good reviews and my hopeful thinking.

image

I already love Tan Towels and have a love/hate relationship with L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Tanning Towlettes, so I was interested and happy to recieve these. The Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow Pad is made especially for your face, as an exfoliating self-tanner towelette. As long as it goes on smooth, doesn’t streak and doesn’t have that weird tan-smell, I’m in! I have tried so many self tanners, that I’m on the search for the best of the best!

image

Designer nail polish. Oh, how you kill me. I already cringe when I hand over the $8-$10 per bottle of Essie or OPI polish, so I’ll admit I’ve never purchased a $19 bottle of polish before and I’m trying my hardest not to get addicted because I don’t think I (or my wallet) have the capacity to start buying these. But trust me, it’s hard not to love this polish called Ray of Light by Deborah Lippman. Perhaps I can just find a salon that carries it…

image

Knock on wood, I don’t have wrinkles, however I’ve heard that by the time you’re 25 you should start using anti-agers and wrinkle fighters. Is there any truth to that? If so I still have a few years (phew!) however that won’t stop me from testing this Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex out. Besides reducing the appearance of crow’s feet and deep wrinkles, it also is supposed to help even out skin tone and increase hydration. Plus there’s SPF!

image

I’m a little skeptical about changing my day-to-day face lotion, especially since mine has salicylic acid to keep my skin balanced and pimple-free. This Lumene Vitamin C+ Pure Radiance 24H Lotion is an all-day hydrating and detoxifying face lotion. What seperates it from other brands is the radiance-enhancing formula aids in regulating sebum production (regulate oil production, in simpler words) while minimizing the look of pores. I think I would test it out in the morning, but will be sticking to my usual routine before bedtime.

image

So here’s the whole package! I’m really happy with the different combination of products: some hair products, skincare, makeup, etc. I will definitely be enjoying the Philip B. Hairspray, Deborah Lippman nail polish and Alpha Beta Glow pads, right off the bat. These are all high-quality, and most can only be purchased at specialty beauty stores which really makes it worth the $25 per month.  If you let me know, I can e-mail you a code for $10 off your first purchase! You can leave me a comment or e-mail me at kenziedegen@gmail.com

I can’t wait to see what’s in next months box! I’m hoping for another luxurious skincare product, and perhaps some high-quality makeup! Interested in Blush Mystery Box? Sign up Here!

First up is GlossyBox! I just posted my review on the July GlossyBox a day ago, and was pretty happy with it. Now that i see this spoiler for a Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush, I’m even more intrigued! Sign up for August’s GlossyBox by using this link so that you too can get this awesome product! Don’t forget JULYMAG for 15% off a sub!

Next up is Ipsy! I HAVE 4 SPOILERS FOR YOU, WOAH!

Screen shot 2013-08-02 at 10.44.16 AM

Okay so I’m not definite that you’re getting ALL 4 of these products, they may be chosen based on your Ipsy quiz preferences, but they all look good so far! This picture above shows two of the possible items! This silver tube is an Urban Decay Lipstick! Worth $22, woah! I’m not sure if they have different color preferences, but it looks like a bold red and a hot pink may be the options.

Additionally, there is a lip balm by Noya that is a kosher and natural balm for soothing your lips. So far I’ve seen flavor options like Classic, Cherry, Spearmint and Vanilla, but who knows what else they have up their sleeves (worth $4). I really hope everyone is getting both of these items, or else there will be some unhappy campers.

Screen shot 2013-08-02 at 10.43.56 AM

Now, we have face/body products by Michael Todd! While I can’t confirm what the products are exactly, these deluxe samples could be one of the following: Oat and Honey Cleanser, Pumpkin Mask, Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub (or other scrub), one of his many Moisturizers, or one of his few facial Serums. I’m trying to base it off the bottle color/shape/types! Personally, I have my fingers crossed for either a scrub, cleanser or mask! I’ve recieved a lot of serums and lotions lately, so it would be overkill.

Screen shot 2013-08-02 at 11.14.52 AM

Finally we have Pixi Beauty Lash Booster Mascara! I love mascara, so I’m pumped! I hope it comes in Blackest Black or Blackest Blue, and I can’t quite tell if it’s a full-size or deluxe sample.. hmm..

Love With Food August Spoiler!

Screen shot 2013-08-02 at 10.46.22 AM

Check out these cute bags of chips! I love the summer picnic table cloth-theme of the bags, and like all the different flavors they have to offer. Apparently BOPS are ‘baked organic potato snacks’ and are better for you than regular chips and various other processed snacks out there. Sign up for Love With Food Here.
Hope you all enjoyed these!
