Total Beauty- New Box, Discount Code & Samples!

So I recently signed up for Total Beauty at TotalBeauty.com because I received an e-mail about scoring a few freebies! When I created an account and got all set up, I realized that Total Beauty also has its own subscription box, however they show you all of the contents.

So, when I heard there was a Mystery Box for only $20 that it supposed to be worth $100+, I got so excited…. AND THEN I found some discount codes for it as well, woo-hoooo! If you eenter the Coupon Code: TBC20 you will receive 20% off of your Mystery Box Collection, which is even better than the 10% Get10 coupon codes I’ve been seeing lately.

So, only $16 for this $20 box, with over $100+ worth of items instead AND Free Shipping!? I’m hooked.

And, while we’re on the topic of Total Beauty… I signed up to win a Deluxe Sample of Benefit The Pore-fessional, and lucky me, I received it in the mail a day ago! It included one deluxe-size sample, good to actually be able to test it a few times to decide if I like it, plus a few one-use packets that I can either distribute to friends or bring for one-the-go.

What’s on my…

Although I love to post my reviews and thoughts on products and subscription boxes, sometimes there are other things happening in my life that I’d wish to share with you, my lovely readersΒ  πŸ™‚

So here is “What’s on my…”, a section where I will post weekly updates with what’s on my mind, plate, rant list and more! Enjoy!

What’s on my Plate:

photo(2)I constantly go instagram crazy with food pictures, often ones of my own homemade lunch or snacks… almost to the point where my friends are asking to cook for them, or to stop posting because they get too hungry at work. So here was my favorite lunch this week: a honey turkey and muenster cheese bran wrap with mixed greens, tomatoes and coleslaw with a side of macaroni salad and a hardboiled egg. Off to the side, you’ll see fruit salad as well! I ty to eat pretty healthy while also mixing it up and getting the proper balance of food groups.

What’s on my Mind:

rain_sunshine

How can it manage to be down-pouring in the morning, absolute cats and dogs, and a few hours later is scorching hot and sunny out? My outfits NEVER make sense! I start out in jeans and rain boots, then get weird stares by the time I get out of work by people in cut-off shorts and tank tops. Or vice versa, I try to dress “summery” and then I’m getting pelted by rain drops in my white button down and pastel skirt!

What’s on my Body:

photo(3)

Turquoise! Lots of turquoise jewelry including a vintage family-owned pendant, and a Fossil Brand braided bracelet. I was almost tempted to throw on some blue/turquoise eyeliner but I thought it would be a bit too much for a typical day in the office.

What’s on my Agenda:

photo(4)Getting my nails done! If anyone knows me at all, they know I always have cool, funky colors on my nails… often with an accent nail in leopard, polka dot or something else outrageous. However, last week I broke off half of my nails (acrylic tips of course, and not on purpose, ouch!) and so I took the initiative to just remove the rest, and now I have bare little stubs. 😦 At least it gives me an excuse to get the $15 Mani-Pedi deal that my salon offers… I never usually treat myself to a pedicure due to time and money! Check out my last color combo!

What’s on my Rant List:

Mailman#1 When my friends get their subscription boxes before me! I’m mostly kidding, but I’m extremely jealous that they already got a jump start at opening up, looking at and testing their new awesome products. For example, my friend Megan got her Ipsy bag yesterday (to which we were texting back and forth about all day) and so I was able to see it when I watched PLL and drank wine with her that evening, however the products vary from bag to bag. So I could get the hot pink blush, or the NYX multi-colored bronzer… it all depends on the luck of the draw!

#2 When I subscribe to a company, receive the “Welcome!” e-mail and weekly subscriber e-mails, however when I haven’t received any boxes in 6 weeks, they can’t seem to manage to e-mail me back/answer any messages! I won’t use any names for now, but I will be reviewing the company in the future (if my box ever arrives…) so we will see what happens. πŸ˜‰

What’s on my Desk:

cookies

COOKIES! One of our speakers dropped off this awesome bouquet/gift basket of cookies! Yum…. and goodbye healthy lunch!

Influenster Something Blue VoxBox

So I recently signed up for this website/review program called Influenster, which is a pretty cool concept: they have almost every product you could possibly think of, and it has consumer ratings on the quality, price, and overall thoughts of the product. Some are basic reviews, other intense videos, but they all have one common ground: to create a community and help influence others with their decisions (and $pending!)

I had connected all my social media accounts and written a handful of reviews when it happened: an e-mail was sent out to me, asking to fill out a survey to qualify for a VOXBOX! This free box is shipped out to select Influensters, who meet the criteria for what they’re looking for. Mine, was called “Something Blue,” a wedding prep box (as if you couldn’t figure it out). While this box is full of free products, it requires an in-depth review and analysis from tweeting about the products to posting reviews online and filling out questionnaires. But hey, let’s see if it was worth it:

Entire Box View

The entire box! Filled with goodies

Scholls Dr. Scholl must be God, or best friends with him. No, I didn’t mess up the brand name… but I am pretty sure there is some correlation because of how amazing these Dr. Scholl’s products are! I already own a pair similar to these Ball of Foot Gel Pads, and I slip them into boots or heels all the time, so I was so excited to get these. I can guarantee you that you will love them, especially for their low price (approx. $6.99)

Toothpaste

Luster NOW! Whitening Toothpaste is also up there in the products I loved in this package. Maybe I tricked myself into thinking it, but my teeth definitely looked whiter and brighter after a few brushes. It foams up really easily, so you don’t need to use a lot, which means it will last a long time. It’s a bit more expensive than regular drugstore brands, but right on par with other whiteners (Approx. $7.99)

Hempstead-20130607-00974I pretty much fail 95% of the time when it comes to fake eyelashes, so I just apply approximately 5 coats of lengthening and volumizing to make it look like they’re really that luscious! However, Kiss EverEZLashes may be the one brand that I’ve actually found success with! It may be because it comes with an eyelasher applicator and a tube of glue, but who knows… now I’m hooked! (Approx $4.99 for dual pack)

Q TipsThis one is a classic… really, who can hate Q-tips? These went hand-in-hand with my eyelash and makeup application the other night, trying to clean up any mascara or eyeliner that smudged under my eyes during my heavy mascara application. Plus the little plastic case is great for travel (Approx $2.99)

Headache

I have yet to try this Headache Relief To-Go, but I plan on it this weekend as I have a friends big backyard birthday party (new york/east coast backyard bbqs = an excuse to be messier and crazier than inside someones house or at a rented venue), so we’ll see if it really works! The idea is genius though, because there are many times I’m without water, and this one you don’t need to mix with water or anything (Approx $1.39)

And to wrap it all up, there was a brochure for MyTrio Rings if you or any of your friends are looking for the whole set (engagement, wedding band and groom wedding band)

Well, I’m off to keep promoting these products and the Something Blue VoxBox in hopes that Influenster will continue to send me more! πŸ™‚

3 Months of KlutchClub for ONLY $11!? It’s True!

So I just found this online and thought I would share it with my other subscription box lovers! PlumDistrict is offering only $11 for 3 months, yes 3 MONTHS worth of KlutchClub!

Just run on over using that link to PlumDistrict and check out the current offers they have going on now. And not only is it only $11 for 3 Months of KlutchClub, but you get to choose which box you want: there are three different ones, curated for Women, Men or Moms.

Image

Just to point out, however, you do have to pay for shipping which is $8 per month. Seems like a lot, but this box which is normally $18 including shipping is now under $12 a box! You pay the $24 (3 months of $8 shipping) up front, but then- hey! it’s done, and you’re getting these boxes for 3 months.

*I was not paid/compensated for this post, I just love getting discounts on boxes!

Julep Maven Box- May 2013

Hi all! Sorry for the delay with this post, especially as it is for the May box, but work got pretty crazy as I had to plan a retreat for 150 people and of course had lots of last minute changes. AND my pictures that I originally took got ruined so I’m working off some ‘eh’ quality pictures + ones from Julep.com

I loooove to get my nails done, and I guarantee if you ever notice my Instagram photos or see me, I never have the same color twice. That also goes for designs: sometimes I get leopard print, others glitter, polka dots, etc… you name it, I’ve done it. And so that’s why the Julep Maven box seemed quite appealing to me.

I registered, luckily, with a free promo code for an Intro Box (see the image at the bottom of my post for more details!) so I only had to pay the $3.99 for shipping on my first box. In order for them to figure out which colors suit your personality and style, they have you take a test and give you a “profile”. Originally, I was labeled a “modern beauty” but when looking through the different colors and options, I opted toward the “Bombshell profile” as it contained two awesome polish colors + a mascara (seriously… I can never get enough eyeliner or mascara).

IMG-20130508-00792

So here was my beautiful box, once I opened the case up! The packaging was too cute- the black and pink combo, with the nail polishes securely wrapped up within the hot pink case. Definitely a good first impression.

Picture 4Next up were the polishes! I received this gorgeous bold polish of which Julep named “Petra”- I would have to say it’s a mix of a purple and burgundy, with a dash of shimmer to catch the light. It is definitely my color for anyone who knows me… I’m pretty sure I have 3 shirts this color, a dress, etc.

Picture 7

The other color, called “Yumi,” is a very glitzy color, definitely for going out or a New Year’s Eve party… something a little crazier than day-to-day in the office. You can even layer it over a pre-existing color if you want to be more eye-catching.

Finally, they threw in my ‘special item’ which can range from another nail polish or a lotion to a makeup product like I received: MASCARA! Nothing to complain about here πŸ™‚

Plus, they threw in a few cute extra items, like a Julep branded nail file and some nail polish remover wipes!

Picture 8The only down-side, in my opinion, to this box is that if you get your nails done in a salon, they tend not to like polishes brought in from home/only try to use certain brands like Essie, OPI, Color Club, etc. And so I will definitely be using these polishes for my toes, but for my nails (I have acrylic tips!) I will have to get them done with coordinating colors, or something that contrasts in just the right way!

Now here’s the cool thing! You can sign up and get your first box FREE too, just like me! Just click the image below, enter the code in before checkout and all you have to pay for is shipping. πŸ™‚

The First Review: Ipsy May 2013

To start, I have to say, the whole concept of having these beauty boxes (and fitness, health, food, etc boxes) are an amazing idea! Sure, there is the fear of “I don’t know what’s going to be in it, so how will I know if I like it!?” Trust me, I had the same thoughts running through my head, and so I checked out different companies and their websites and feedback before ordering anything. Plus, even though you don’t know what’s included, you usually get double the value of the money you spend per box. I decided to sign up to pay monthly, just in case I wanted to cancel at any point. Most of these companies offer slightly reduced rates if you sign up for 3-months, 6-months or 12-months at a time, but just make sure you love the contents before doing so!

So after about 6 months of receiving Ipsy and having only amazing things to say, here is my first review:

IMG_3615_2

The May 2013 Ipsy GlamBag was one of my favorite custom-bags that I’ve received so far! While I also enjoyed the Nautical-themed one from the month prior, and a silver bag a few months before, the other bags I had recieved were very simple: black, brown, etc. This printed zig-zag teal, white, blue and orange combination bag was definitely the best, and not only that, the items included were a hit:

IMG-20130512-00834

Zoya Nail Polish in “Neely”: Full Size

$8 for 15 ml/.5 fl. oz

IMG_3653This light minty-green polish seems perfect for this Spring-themed bag! Although my first preference would be the white or pink shade rather than this minty green, I think I will definitely end up using it. I just recently tested it out on my own nails and it seems to go on smoothly, similar to an Essie/OPI quality polish which is actually shocking, however my nails never look as good when I do them myself versus getting them done at a salon, so of course a few of mine smudged. I think it would look better if I had a tan as well, since it’s such a light color. It would be a great one to use as a base and then put designs on (just wait for my future post on nail polish colors and designs!) In terms of the brand, most of the other Ipsy girls I’ve seen posting on the website threads seem to enjoy it and recommend it to their friends.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars,Β  as it’s not my absolute favorite color but is definitely a good polish and worth getting.

St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Tanning Lotion

Sample Size 50 ml/1.69 ozIMG_3621_2

Full Size: $18 for 5 oz, so sample is worth approx. $5.50

Many people recieved a bronzing or luminating lotion from Pacifica, however I recieved a sample size of St Tropez instead (I’d say enough for 1 full body application, or a few partial applications). I have yet to apply this to my entire body (or at least chest/arms/face if I’m going out and wearing pants!) but based on testing some out on my skin, I think it has potential. It is a well-known, and often expensive brand, so I was quite giddy when I received it in my package. The only downside, is that I already previously received this sample through Sephora, and hadn’t had a chance to use it (so now I have 2!).Β  ALSO: You must must must wear gloves or a bronzing mitt! I tested it out on my skin and had to scrub my fingers after only having the lotion on them for a few minutes.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars, because it is a one-night-only bronzer, and I would prefer one that either lasted or was a gradual-build up bronzer and didn’t fear of it staining any light clothing (or my hands!)

Juice Beauty Reflecting Lip Gloss in Champagne

Full Size: $15 for 4 ml/.14 fl ozIMG_3658

*I thought this was a full-size product, but on the JuiceBeauty website it says $15 for .28 oz, and that is the only size option. Therefore, this would be worth $7.50

Love the brand, bottle and everything, but it is just not my color! I feel kinda silly putting this gold-glittery champagne color on my lips, when all of my outfits go with pinks and reds; It smells delicious and goes on smoothly, without being too sticky, but the bottom line is that it basically just doesn’t do anything for me as I’m not a big fan of lip gloss. I almost wish it was a sample-size, however I may use the Ipsy Swap and see if someone would like to exchange colors with me.

Rating: 3/5 Stars- It seems like a good brand, and is a great product if you like lip gloss. I would recommend it to someone looking for a simple gloss, but it’s just not my cup of tea.

Yaby Concealor Pod Refill in Buff-$4.85Β  Buff

*I couldn’t figure out if this was a sample or “full size”, as nothing came with the concealer refill and it was difficult to find details on sizing.

I think this little concealer pod is a great idea, and would have been even better if it was included with the prior months bag, as the bag included a magnetic make-up holder and mirror, and the concealer would have easily popped right into that. Otherwise, I can’t carry it around with me and it will end up at the bottom of my beauty closet! In general, the Ipsy girls did a good job trying to match up my skin color, and although it is a little on the light side, I can probably make it work.

Rating: 3/5 because it requires a case (which you would have to purchase) and it doesn’t have any form of applicator.

Nu-Me Finishing Serum– Sample Size: 10 ml IMG_3656

Full Size: 2 fl. oz/59 ml for $29, , so sample is worth approx. $5

This serum was actually the perfect size despite it being only a sample. I was extremely worried about it being too oily or sticky, however it rubbed in smoothly, without weighing down my hair. I rarely use oils or serums, so I’m sure this will last me a long time, and it’s small enough to bring on vacations when my hair gets overworked from the sun and chlorine.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars, good quality and size, I just don’t often use any serums. I’m giving it a higher grade/benefit of the doubt because I think many other fashionistas will like it!

IMG_3616_2Plus, I got this discount card to be used on any Nu-Me products!

So all in all… when you include the custom make-up bag as well, the May 2013 Ipsy GlamBag gets a 4/5!

This is definitely a subscription to get, and I can’t wait for next months!

xoxo,

Mackenzie

*Disclaimer: I signed up for Ipsy on my own, and did not receive any items for free/was not asked to do a review*

*Also, the MICA loose eyeshadow product shown above was from a previous bag, that was sent over separately
